Six days to go until surgery and then it's time for resting. As the day gets nearer, I find myself more and more ready to get it done and get to the recovery process. Waiting and anticipating is often the hardest part.
But, as the title states, "Six days and then we rest..." reminds me of something else. I've been in the Psalms reading since around June and I never cease to be blessed by what the inspired writers recorded for us. They were real people, facing real hardships, dealing with real struggles and yet finding real joy and praise for God. Six days and then rest reminded me of creation and Psalm 19 where we are given an incredibly powerful picture of God's creation and what it does. It reads, "The heavens are telling of the glory of God; and their expanse is declaring the work of His hands. Day to day pours forth speech and night to night reveals knowledge. There is no speech nor are there words; their voice is not heard. Their line has gone out through all the earth and their utterances to the end of the world". Wow. Last night I stood out in the middle of our yard. I looked up toward the heavens and saw a perfectly clear sky. As I felt the tingle of the cool air on my face and cool freshness in my lungs, do you know what sounds I heard? None. It was like I had ear muffs on, it was just quiet. But do you know what I heard? I saw and heard the voice of Psalm 19. No, I'm not crazy and hearing voices. I'm talking about looking at the pure and beautiful black sky filled with glimmering stars, and there were countless numbers of them that I could see, all of which were "telling of the glory of God". They cannot be audibly heard but they are literally the story book of God's glory and greatness. Just by their existence, by their visibility in the night sky, they are shouting "God is awesome. God is great. God is powerful. God is glorious!". They do it naturally... we, His most precious and crown of all His creation, have to be told to declare His glory. Then, we must choose it. I choose it today. No matter what my challenges, God is awesome, God is great, God is powerful, God is glorious!
Then, this morning rolls around... and I read Psalm 93. In part, it reads, "The Lord reigns. He is clothed with majesty" and later, "the Lord on high is mighty". No doubt. I considered last night and could not miss, that God is majestic. One awesome thing about the truth that the Lord reigns, is knowing that even though He is interested in and providing for my challenges, He is doing the same for so many more who are facing challenges. He forgets no one. As I think about us praying last night for another family going through a very difficult time, I am thankful that the Lord reigns. He reigns for them, He reigns for us, He reigns for those suffering in Haiti from the hurricane, He reigns around the universe. He has not forgotten them in caring for us and he has not forgotten us in caring for them. He is the creator of the heavens and the earth and all that is in them. He sustains the sun and stars in the sky, that go from day to day and night to night declaring His glory and greatness. And... He reigns.
We choose to declare: God you are majestic and glorious and worthy of all our praise!
Six days to go .... the next update you will receive will be from Cleveland Ohio!
The Lord our God, the Lord is one. You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise. You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates. ~Deuteronomy 6:5-9
